How it works

How the business name generator works

  1. Describe your business

Type what you do, or tap an industry. Add up to three keywords and a style such as Modern, Playful or Luxury if you like.

  2. Get 24 names, each with its .com status

Every name comes with a one-line meaning and a live registry check of its .com. Taken? We check two close variants for you.

  3. Claim your name

Save your favorites, grab the domain, then check the trademark before you print anything. Each name's details link to all three.

Know the difference

Business name vs. LLC name vs. DBA

Business name

Golden Hour Bakehouse

The name customers see on your sign, site and invoices. It can be your legal name or a brand name.

LLC name

Golden Hour Bakehouse LLC

Your company's legal name, registered with your state and ending in LLC. Your state won't accept one that's too close to an existing company.

DBA

“doing business as”

A "doing business as" filing that lets you trade under a name other than your legal one. It's cheap, but it doesn't protect the name.

Need an LLC name? The generator works as an LLC name generator too: pick a name, check that your state has no company close to it, then add “LLC” when you file.

After you pick a name

Make the name yours, in this order

  1. Register the .com

Do it first: domains go fastest. Open the name's details, or use Register on its card.

    Find a name to register
  2. Search the trademark

Look for the same or a confusingly similar name in your line of business on USPTO.

    Search USPTO
  3. Form your LLC or file a DBA

An LLC reserves the name in your state and protects you; a DBA lets you trade under it.

    Form your LLC
  4. Claim the social handles

Grab the same handle on Instagram, TikTok and X before you announce. Each name's details link to all three.

Naming tips

How to pick a business name that works

  • Say it out loud

If a customer can't spell it after hearing it once on the phone, they won't find you. Skip silent letters, odd spellings and numbers that could be words.

  • Leave room to grow

"Austin Cupcakes" is stuck in one city and one product. A name that hints at what you do without naming a single item lets you add services and locations later.

  • Check the .com before you fall in love

Customers type .com by habit. If the exact .com is taken, a short prefix like get or try, or your trade at the end, usually works better than a hyphen or a different ending.

  • Search the trademark early

A free domain doesn't mean a free name. Search USPTO for the same or a similar name in your line of business before you print signs or file your LLC.

  • Keep it short

Two words or fewer, under about 15 letters, fit on a van, a storefront and an Instagram handle. Short names are easier to remember and harder to mistype.

FAQ

Business name generator questions

Is this business name generator free?

Yes. You can generate up to 30 batches of 24 names a day for free, with no account. Saved names stay in your browser.

How does the AI business name generator work?

You describe your business with an industry, optional keywords and a style. An AI model writes name ideas with a short meaning for each. We drop names that copy famous brands or use rude words, then look up each .com in the official .com registry.

How do you check if a .com domain is available?

We ask Verisign, the registry that runs .com, through its public RDAP service. If the registry has no record of the domain, we mark it Likely available. If it has one, we mark it Taken and check two variants.

Why does it say "Likely available" instead of "Available"?

The registry only tells us whether someone has registered the domain. Some unregistered names are reserved or sold at premium prices, and anyone can register a free name at any moment. The registrar confirms the price when you search.

Can I use a name if the .com is available?

Not necessarily. Another business may hold a trademark on the same or a similar name, or your state may already have a company registered with it. Search USPTO and your state's business registry before you commit. This tool isn't legal advice.

What is the difference between a company name generator and a business name generator?

None in practice. A business name generator, a company name generator and a brand name generator all suggest names for a business. Ours focuses on small businesses in the United States and checks the .com for every name.

How many business name ideas can I get?

Each batch has 24 names. Load more adds 24 new ones without repeats, and More like this writes a new batch in the spirit of a name you like.

Do you save the names I generate?

We don't keep your names or link them to you. The names you star are stored only in your browser. See our privacy policy for what the site logs.

What makes a good business name?

It's easy to say and spell, hints at what you do, has a matching .com or close variant, and doesn't clash with an existing trademark in your field.

What should I do after I pick a name?

Register the domain, search the trademark, then register the business: form an LLC or file a DBA (fictitious business name) in your state, and claim the matching social handles.
